Robbie Wood, the 20-year-old from Melrose taking part in only his second-ever forest rally – following his Border Counties debut last year – came through strongly with co-driver Steven Brown from Fort William (below) to win the MG3 category.
They had enjoyed a terrific battle with Thomas Milne of Oldmeldrum and Neil Jeffrey – winners last time out – but they went off in stage seven, and Anstruther’s Rian Walker and Craig Wallace went into the final stage with a one-second lead. But Wood and Brown came through to win the last stage and triumph overall by nine seconds, with Mark Constantine and Antony Coates claiming third.
Walker and Wallace take over at the top of the standings after three rounds, with four events to go – the next the Greystoke Stages at Penrith on 6 July.
